And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power (Ephesians 1:19).
Christians are wise who constantly meditate upon the greatness and goodness of God. William Gurnall well said, “One Almighty is more than all the mighties.” In this passage the Greek word translated, “exceeding” literally means, “to surpass, to go over and beyond, to excel.”
Ephesians 1:19 refers to the “exceeding greatness of His power” which He worked for us “in Christ” (1:20). Ephesians 2:7 speaks of “the exceeding riches of His grace.” Again, the unfathomable wealth of grace is due to God’s “kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 3:19 says, “to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” What treasure is ours due to the salvation to be found in Christ! Power, riches of grace and love that surpasses knowledge – all comes beautifully together to give us salvation in Christ. We are rich indeed!
